Rigged the Founder girl for a bit of animation in the Dominion Intro.

Woooah! That's a lot of stuff to work with!!! I'd panic with all that on my screen! But, as you once said: Time and patience is the key; right, Professor?

That's what I think also, but they have a rude way to say it, even if they don't mean to be rude.

What we need is more workers and fewer whiners.

I think that at this point we could use more programmers that will take some of the load off Mike's shoulders... The thing is that even a very very basic AI, ie "rolling dice" on who wins a battle and basic diplomacy, would be most welcome at this point. A few years back I had sent invitations via Facebook to several programming/gaming groups to see if anyone is interested in joining, but we didn't get anything out of it, so I don't think it would work again either...

There is of course a German Star Trek BOTE conversion. If we could just get it in English.

Did you see Malvoisin's post? They have a Star Trek Data set for BOTE. He said something about updating it with the features of a German mod of BOTE. It's in this forum above.

Wow holy heck I must have missed this thread somehow... very nice work on the great link ocean, looks sweet. Also the humanoid looks pretty good also. If you don't mind a minor critique, I think you made her look too human founders tend to look unfinished, with undefined features. Maybe make the gray hair greenish-blond (wow google images failed me can't find very many examples besides the obvious 2 founders). Anyways hope that I didn't offend you because the stuff you have posted so far is amazing. Keep up the great work, I don't care what those FB people say I can't wait till you show more videos or even screenshots.

Thanks Kaladin and those are good point. In working with the model I have adding in some of the unfinished features to nodes and eyes.
Blender has this new and greatly improved render engine called cycles. It works great but it will take a few more version releases to work with all the other features I want to use. I want lsmoke, compositing and subsurface scattering. There are some work arounds thanks to help from Luke Whitethorn but it is taking more time. I have to run another two renders to get in the features I want. It will be more like this weekend or next week before I have the opening scene completed. Sorry for the delays.

Until the blender compositor is fully functional with cycles it will be complicated. The good news is that the compositor in blender can run by just pointing an image input node at a file containing images in numeric sequence. Lightwave does not have a compositor. That means if you are animating in Lightwave you do not have to pay for After Effect or some other pay through the nose compositor. Just download blender for free and you are good to go. I can show you the next time we are skype / teamview ing.

Here is a nucleus for my comet in the Dominion part two. Next I need a "smoke system" to make the tail. The primary PC is working on the part one render. This is run on the backup system.

Hey take your time, the other race intro videos you guys have done thus far are really good so keep up the good work.
My favorite is the Cardasian video, but good credit should go to the voice actor and script for the Feds it flows nice with the music and video. The only critical things I can think of on the video on the Fed intro is the picture at the start of the federation signing (looks odd, maybe another fade in effect would work) and the stutter when the camera zooms into the ship's name (at 33 secs). The Klingon video is almost perfect just something about the sound in it bothers me (I think its the fire burning then crickets, just sound out of place to me). The Romulan intro is pretty good I just have this weird querk of not liking animated people, something about facial recognition makes doing people really hard to pull off even if extremely well done and close.
I hope you don't mind my comments, because overall I think they are great and 100s of times better than anything I could even dream of pulling off so feel free to dismiss my comments.

Your comments are all valid and you hit on a number of issues that have bothered me. That is why I call this round the Alpha versions. It is getting better as are the tools I am using. Let’s hope the beta round lives up to expectations. Look! Up in the Sky! It's a rock. It's a dirty snow ball! No, it is Super Comet! ...truth, justice and the Dominion way!

Not to jump ahead too much but are you planning to do short clips for lets say "meeting a non-major power for the first time" or random things like "colonizing a planet" (having a generic ship landing on a generic planet kind of thing). And probably most important meeting the Borg first time (that totally needs a mini-video, even if really small).
Things I can think might be nice to have small clips for: - Colonization - Building a starbase - Major Power victory video - Borg first contact - Minor Race First Contact (not necessarily for each but generic) - Maybe if you really got time random events (Crystalline entity, etc.) - Combat victory (might not really be needed) - Combat Loss (might not really be needed) - Diplomatic Relations - Enemy Declares war - Diplomatic Relations - Form an alliance - System rebels/riots on you
** most of these would only need a quick 5 second small clip
Anyways like I said earlier, what you have already is great, anything more is just bonus.

Great minds think alike. I will have to ask Mike though. It would add to the download time. He green lighted the intros but no more at this time.

The extra videos could always be an optional download and the game simply ignore them if they are missing from the files.

I hope Mike agrees on adding them to the game. It would be a big plus if the events were animated. Yeah, bigger download but a big Plus! I wouldn't mind the bigger download... Usually it announces the quality of the game. And with Kenneth as the video director, you can't go wrong!

My worry would be more the time required to create the content and then the effort needed to add them in to the events that trigger them. Anything that delays the games release further should be examined carefully, but I do think it would be great to have them. At this stage of computers a few 10-second videos would be hardly noticeable to most users in download time.
I'm curious how large are the videos you have currently?

I can easily picture the Starbase being reconstructed, piece by piece, with soldering robots and their lasers at work. And a few ships slowly hovering by.

By the way I still think there should be a Game Intro (not race, but it can borrow clips from there) but something that has music and has clips from the game put together in a theme with the title "Supremacy" coming up.
