Cdrwolfe came up with the idea for having emblems for each of the minor races. This will likely be be a massive undertaking, but would definitely enrich the game as a whole. 8)

The emblems would be seen during diplomacy reports, in the Trekpedia, on the galactic map, and so on. They would be 2D images that represent that Empire, like the Federation Stars and Crest, or the Romulan Hawk carrying the twin Planets of Romulus and Remus in its' Talons.

The purpose of this thread is for people to create and display those images. ANYONE that wants to make something for the game can have a go at this. Whilst all of the races now have images that have been made by Zeleni, if you think you can make a better image, then do so!

The more creative people are with the images, the better. We need images for a LOT of races, and we don't want them all looking the same! You can use animals, objects, symbols, "writing", colours, and shapes - anything that you think helps to define that race, or simply looks cool!

You can make the images in any size or file format you want. HOWEVER, when they are submitted, we will need them in the .png format, a minimum of 120x120 pixels in size, and must have a transparent background. These requirements are the standard that we are using for ALL 2D images, so for qualities' sake, don't make your images smaller than this size!

If you have any problems with converting the images or adding transparencies, don't worry about it. Other people can always do it for you. Just post your problems here in this thread and *someone* will be able to help.

Have fun making the images, and good luck!

For reference, race names in red are empires and races in orange may or may not make it into the game.

I have already 40 logos... lots of them canon ...

Matress delete those images from St- minutie cause I have already reworked them so we have brand new images   . I need some time (testing in Mike Supremacy) to make them perfect. Once I get satisfied I will upload them to sharepoint...

and one thing more, I didn t talk to Mike but looking in Supremacy there is no need for logo size larger then 120x120 ( It s more important for image to look good resized at 16x16 or 24x24)

THIS IS ONLY PREVIEW:

Regards Zeleni

Very good idea. I created a new sub-folder on SharePoint under Pictures, Image Library called Emblems, Minor Race

When I made the Minor Race MP3 vocal introductions it was based on the list at

http://www.trekmania.net/temp_files/botf2_home.htm

(Under Minor Races on the left.)

Supremacy will us under 50 of the 145 Minor Races listed here. You may want to check on what minor races really will be used in a game.

I hadn't planned on including insignias for the minor races, but it can easily be done, and I think the galactic map might already check for them and use them if found. I don't see a need for the images to exceed 128x128 pixels. As always, PNG is the format of choice. I think in the case of insignias, optimized 8-bit PNGs with bitmask transparency will suffice most of the time. Otherwise, 24-bit PNGs with a full alpha channel would be the way to go.

I can pretty much guarantee that using minor race insignias on the galactic map would not work, since you would quickly run out of space when ships from more than 3 or 4 races existed in the same sector. It would also be a pain to remember which insignia belongs to which race. However, we could still use them in the diplomacy screen and perhaps in other parts of the game as well.

Mstrobel:
Would you be able to label the planet (solar system) with the minor race insignia if not the ship on the galactic map?

What minor races are you using from the list of 145?

Zeleni:
Those logos look very nice. I am impressed with the way you impove on the older versions.

@Kenneth: Yes, I think using the minor race insignas in the planets panel would be a good idea. I plan to include all 145 of the minor races, or at least as many as possible while maintaining balanced numbers between the four quadrants. I've added a few dozen so far, and I don't have the list handy, but you can easily check by loading up the Supremacy Editor that's bundled with the latest pre-release.

OK, that sounds very nice. My error, I thought you had said 48 or so in the Hailing Frequency interview. Just be sure to make it BYOB. I do not want to have to buy drinks for all 145.

IT WILL BE SO MUCH SEXIER WITH 145 RACES POPPING UP. :P

Mr.Kenneth:

Thanks for feedback!

Mr.Strobel:

One question about key minor races regarding star sectors. Territory of major powers is represented in BLUE COLOR FOR FEDS, GREEN FOR ROMULANS ETC. What about expandable minors, how to distinguish their space on galactic map?

It's best if we make all of the images in the standard size first; they can always be shrunk down for the system screen later. The system screen is actually what I meant by the Galactic map...I wouldn't make a mistake like that... :P

I'm going to carry on updating the main post again now. It should be closer to completion by the time you guys read this.

If you want a standard size for insignias, use 128x128. It's square and it shouldn't be hard to find existing insignias around that size.

It's only 8 pixels - your images should be relatively unscathed if we increase them in size by that tiny amount Zeleni.

I'll update the post if you're really set on that image size, Mike. I seriously think it would be better to make them larger first then resize them as necessary. Irfanview can batch resize images so I could do it without a problem.

I'll do a uniform-to-fill scale on the images, so it really doesn't matter how big or small they are. Just use 128x128 as a guide. 120x120 is fine, but I'd rather they not be 512x512 or 32x32.
