well first off let me say sorry for my absence. I know its been a long time since ive been here. College, work, ex-girlfriend, and computer problems have been plauging me for the past few months. I havnt gotten the oportunity to do much but here is what ive manage to produce. I know its not a lot but i will try to make more as soon as i can, that is if you still want me to. I see we have some other contributers now.

Hey Sj, welcome back!

Now we've got two people doing random event images. You guys might want to work together to produce the best images you can. That or work against each other and fight it out. There's nothing like a bit of healthy competition.

I've got one little tiny nitpick though Sj; the images that we've asked for need to be 270x225 pixels (Or a multiple of those dimensions) Your images are 275x255 though. I know it's just 5 pixels off, but it's just a heads up for future images. Otherwise keep up the good work.

I've got some news for you guys as well; Mike told me last night that he's added in a rudimentary random event system to the game. It only allows for one random event at the moment, which has a 1% (Or once per 100 turns) chance of occuring. With any luck though, it won't be long before the game is ready for some "real" randoms - and your images will have real purpose then.

I'll get on it now. You and Sj have duplicated some of the images though, so i'll put them side-by-side and let people choose which one they think is best.

Great to have two people working on this. So could we have two images for the same event and just alternate the one that comes up?

Does anyone want to make ship models?

I'm not sure if that's possible, Kenneth; i'm sure Mike would add it if we ask though. The problem with it is that doubling up the images increases the filesize of the final game - that's bigger downloads that need more bandwidth, more files that need more memory space on players computers, and more files that need to be loaded by the game so slower performance.

...Other than that though, I say go for it.

I've updated the images in the first post now. Where we've got multiple images, i've put them side-by-side so people can compare. I also centered the images for greater effect.

btw. would it be possible to render some if not all images also in higher resolution, just in case a design change is made and the pics should be filling out half or near-half the screen?

That's why I said to do the images at a minimum of 270x225 or a multiple of that size, Mal. Supremacy automatically resizes images to fit, but obviously if the game needs to upscale an image, quality will be lost.

It is possible to do I kept all the PSD files for each of these, I have been considering redoing the background on a few of them because they were not of high quality.

would be cool if you could make them available in higher res afterwards. At best in a two-layer psd with the background stuff as one layer and all trek emblems and stuff in the second layer (if possible ) since then we could use those pics for BotE too if you don't mind .

Mal, I went back to see what I could do about the images once I tried to scale at 800x600 with the PSD files they look like "throwup" I would have to create a whole new set of images if you wanted to go any larger than 540x450.

I doubt Mal wants the images larger than 540, so don't work on making bigger ones unless he says so Val. That might save you doing some work.

If you created them at 270x225 original resolution then it's fine to leave them that way. Upscaling can also be automatically done by the game's engine but since it's likely to result in throwup images, we would then use the 270 ones and not upscale them. It's just if you did them at a higher res first and then downscaled to 270x225.

yeah, sorry they were all created in a 270x225 window. the only one that was made outside of those settings was the very first image I posted.
