botf2.square7.ch/homepage is done by http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joomla Joomla at the moment (Feb 2014) it's Joomla 3.2.2.

Menu

Important is the Menu on the top of the screen

User Manager

go to Users > UserManager > Add New User ... input data...select “Receive System emails” = Yes .....press (green) SAVE at the top

change to Assigned (to) User Groups (still in the same screen) and select also Super User (as all users are done manually we don’t need a big difference in Groups) ....don’t forget to save this also

Log out

log out (top menue –> last symbol on the right side) + use the password sent to your email

Screens mostly must be CLOSE

a logic of Joomla is mostly (not always) that you have to CLOSE the last screen before going somewhere else (mostly you can chose SAVE&CLOSE) –> so press CLOSE

Article

go to CONTENT (top menue) > Article Manager (don’t go to NEW ARTICLE, click onto Article Manager ) -> you’ll get an overview about all articles, also about HOME –> click to this and you’ll get following screen

Menu bar

One thing I tell now in addition: Go to Menus (top menue) to Main Menu –> in that overview atm only MAIN MENU is online (green check mark)

Quick Preview

go to a red one, click it, set STATUS to pubishled, SAVE + menu line top right is “Star Trek: ...” (Preview link) –> just click (or if you have the homepage on a browser tab, just press F5) and have a look to the changes you’ve made

if you don’t like (like here in this example), go back, select UNPUBLISH + SAVE –> new preview...it’s gone

so with everything you can do a quick check

Weblinks

• 1) top menue (COMPONENTS > WEBLINKS)
• 2) where is the weblink-component shown: go to (top menue) EXTENSIONS > MODULE MANAGER -> select Title=Links

More

Joomla itself is very powerful and has many options so I don’t give many more tipps here (but I can do if somebody needs).

on the other side some things are easy to do if you know how. For example to install a extensions like the Visitor/FlagCounter it takes just 5 minutes and it runs.

remember: if you can’t access top menue so you have to CLOSE a screen before
